RACMI paid school fees for less privileged boys and girls from Benue, Rivers, Enugu and Kano states in Nigeria and also rescued a boy from Port Harcourt prison and sent him to school  Readmore

National Conference.

The 2016 RACMI national conference with the theme, “Transformation of Agricultural Production in Nigeria: a Viable Sector for Sustaining Economic Development and Poverty Alleviation”, was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 25-28 October, 2016.

This conference was attended by RACMI members from all the states of Nigeria as well as participants from the Universities, Ministry of Agriculture, Bank of Agriculture(BOA) Federal department of Agricultural Extension, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sasakawa African Association (SSA).

The keynote address was delivered by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture.

Other Paper presentations were made on the different subthemes.

At the end of the conference, participants observed that.

  1. Nigeria is facing a serious food security crisis which might lead to starvation in the near future if nothing drastic is done.
  2. Subsistent agriculture is seriously at risk as today’s youth seem to prefer white collar jobs in organizations to farming.
  3. Livestock, particularly grazing livestock has become a serious threat to other agricultural production.

A lot of recommendations were made to government through the Minister of Agriculture to encourage all sub sectors of agricultural production.

1. Community Based Organizations (CBOs) capacity building initiatives.
2. Youth and women skills development and training programs.
3. Schools Support Initiatives (Library, Laboratory, Resource Centers, WASH, etc.).
4. Orphans and Vulnerable Children Scholarship Scheme.
5. Youth Career Guidance and Counselling Services.
